LG TV not turning on

An LG TV that appears dead may still have a standby light, a failed power board, or a simple outlet and HDMI-CEC issue.

Quick answer

Confirm the wall outlet, try the physical button on the TV (not only the remote), disconnect HDMI devices, and wait after unplugging for a full power cycle. No backlight with sound is a different fault from a completely dark, silent set.

Separate three situations: no lights at all, a standby LED that never becomes a picture, and sound without an image. They are not the same repair.

Power path

  1. Try a known-good outlet and avoid cheap overloaded strips.
  2. Hold the TV’s own power button for several seconds.
  3. Unplug for two minutes, press the TV power button while unplugged to drain residual charge, then reconnect.
  4. Disconnect HDMI, USB and soundbars. HDMI-CEC devices can confuse wake behaviour.

Clicking or briefly lighting

A click-repeat or a flash of backlight often points to a power-board protection trip or a shorted LED string on some LCD sets. This is board-level work. Do not “recap by YouTube” on a live chassis.

OLED-specific notes

LG OLED sets have pixel-care routines and can look off while still in a standby or panel-on delay. If the set is under manufacturer warranty, use that path rather than an independent workshop — this site does not replace warranty policy.
