Unplug first. Vacuum condenser dust, wipe door gaskets, confirm the defrost drain is not blocked with food slime, and keep vents inside the cabinet clear.
Maintenance will not make a failed compressor young again. It does prevent a working LG refrigerator from overheating and icing because nobody cleaned it for three summers.
Every few months
- Vacuum the grille / underside condenser path.
- Wipe gaskets with mild soapy water; dry them.
- Check that the cabinet is level enough for doors to close.
Ice makers
If you never use ice, disable the ice maker in settings rather than letting it stall half-full. Do not pour boiling water on the ice bucket.
Water filters
Replace only with compatible cartridges on the interval in your manual. A bypass plug exists on some models if you do not use the dispenser.
