LG refrigerator leaking water

Puddles under an LG refrigerator are often a blocked defrost drain, a cracked water-filter housing, or a freezer that iced over and thawed onto the floor.

Quick answer

Find whether the water is clean (supply/filter) or dirty/odorous (defrost drain). Unplug before pulling the unit out. Do not run with standing water near the electrical plug.

Identify the liquid. Clear water near the dispenser often means a filter or tank fitting. Brownish water under a freezer compartment is usually defrost melt that missed the drain pan.

Defrost drain

Food debris and ice can block the trough behind the freezer panel. Some owners carefully flush with warm — not boiling — water after unplugging. If you cannot access the trough without dismantling foam-packed covers, stop.

Water supply

Shut the saddle valve before replacing a filter. A cracked head after a cheap third-party cartridge is a real-world leak source. Use compatible parts.

Refrigerator repair if the leak continues or you see rust on the supply valve.
