How to clean an LG AC filter

A dusty indoor filter is one of the few AC tasks most owners can do safely: power off, slide the mesh out, wash gently, dry fully, refit.

Quick answer

Turn the AC off at the breaker or isolator, open the indoor cover, slide the mesh filters out, vacuum or wash with mild soap, dry completely, then refit. Never spray water into the electrical box.

Dirty filters make an LG split AC look “out of gas” when the real problem is airflow. Cleaning is maintenance, not a sealed-system repair.

Steps

  1. Switch the indoor unit off. For extra safety, isolate power at the indoor switch or breaker.
  2. Open the front panel as shown in your model’s diagram — clips differ.
  3. Slide each mesh filter downward or outward. Photograph the orientation.
  4. Vacuum loose dust. If washing, use lukewarm water, no bleach on coated meshes unless the manual allows it.
  5. Dry in shade until no moisture remains. A wet filter grows odour and can drip into electronics.
  6. Refit until fully seated, close the panel, restore power.

What filters will not fix

Ice on the indoor coil, outdoor unit silence, or a burning smell are not filter problems. Ice often means airflow or refrigerant issues — stop the unit and read AC repair rather than running it on fan-only for days.
