LG AC troubleshooting: weak cooling

Weak cooling on an LG split AC is often filters, outdoor airflow, or a mode/timer setting — not automatically a gas top-up.

Troubleshooting · 5 September 2026 · LG Service Center

Quick answer

Clean indoor filters, confirm Cool mode (not Fan or Dry), check that the outdoor unit is running and not smothered, and look for ice on the copper. Ice means stop the cooling mode.

“Please fill gas” is the most overused AC sentence in many markets. Refrigerant is not a consumable like petrol. If a system needs gas, it has a leak that should be found.

Owner checks

  • Filters — see filter cleaning.
  • Outdoor coil caked with dust or a generator exhaust blowing into it.
  • Indoor unit on a timer or energy-saver setpoint that never reaches the number you expect.

Ice

Ice on the indoor coil or suction pipe: switch to fan, open filters, and stop. Running iced coils can damage the compressor.
